The RoboJackets will be hosting the 2009 Georgia FIRST Regional Kickoff. This year the event will be held in the Ferst Center at Georgia Tech. Following kickoff there will be workshops geared toward getting teams up and running with the new control system and kitbot. The workshops will be split in to two legs one for the kitbot assembly and one for control system assembly. To find out more about the workshops and signup for them click here.

There will be another controls workshop at Georgia Tech. It will be on Sunday, December 14th. This will focus on getting the hardware up and running. As a result it will be geared to teams who are receiving the control system early. The workshop will be in Van Leer W200 (the same location as last time). Sign up can be found here. This years lecture on innovation will be Dr. Jim West of Johns Hopkins University. It will be on noise in medical environments and microphones. Lunch will be provided afterward in the Galleries of the Ferst Center. The talk begins at 11am on December 2nd in the Ferst Center.

This past Saturday, marked the completion of our 2008 Technology Enrichment Sessions. The RoboJackets would like to congratulate the the winning teams.

At our next general meeting (Thursday, November, 6 @ 7pm in Van Leer W200) Norman Ahmad from JPL will be giving a presentation about his work at JPL including the up coming MSL (Mars Science Lander). Below is a short bio of the speaker.
Norman Ahmad received his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tennessee State University in 2004. He spent 3 summers interning at JPL prior to being hired on as a Robotics Hardware Engineer in 2005. During his 3 years at JPL he has worked on the MER mobility platform, ATHLETE Vehicle, MSL Electronics Ground Support Equipment, and MSL Drill Ground Support Equipment.
Norman became interested in Robotics as a young boy in grade school. He loved watching cartoons like Transformers and Voltron which depicted robots doing various cool things! Every since then Norman has always wanted to be a part of the robotics world. Currently he is working on the Mars Science Laboratory – MSL project which is scheduled to launch in the summer of 2009.
